Settings Hierarchy
The settings can be defined at three levels:
- Global level
- Product level
- Component level
Global settings
Global settings apply as default settings to all products.
Every new product will have the global settings values by default.
Product settings
Product settings apply to the product and as default settings to all its components.
IriusRisk determines which component settings apply using the criteria below:
- Check if customized settings values exist at product level.
- For the rest of the settings, get the values from global settings.
Component settings
Component settings apply to the component.
To calculate component settings:
- Check if customized settings (a customized setting is a setting that has been modified from its original parent’s value) values exists at component level.
- For the rest of the settings, check if customized settings values exists at product level.
- For the rest of the settings, get the values from global settings.
Example
Restore default values
We can restore default values at product and component level using this option:
Restore product default values
When we press the button to “Restore default values” at product level, then all values will be inherited from global values. If previously we had customized settings values, those values will be discarded.
Restore component default values
When we press the button to “Restore default values” at component level, then all values will be inherited from product values. If previously we had customized settings values, those values will be discarded.
